"So Ya Wanna Do RIP Graphics With MebbsNet?!?"
Pretty simple, actually. First, you'll need a RIP graphics creation program.
There are Amiga versions out there, but they're crippled. I use TombArt for
the IBM to do mine.
You simply draw up your menus, then create MOUSE REGIONS around the commands
that you want your users to be able to mouse-click on. As you create the
mouse regions, assign them host commands corresponding to the menu selections
(for example, F on our main menu takes you to a file areas list. The mouse
region surrounding the "File Areas Menu" on the menu is assigned the host
command "F". That way, if they click on it, it sends an F to the BBS.)
Once you've created your menu, save it with a .GRx extension (I use .GR3
here for RIP menus). You'll need to have your users select that if they want
to be able to see your artwork (Adjust Parameters, Graphics Mode).
I've included some samples in this archive. One very special one is the
WELCOME.TXT replacement. If you have a WELCOME.TXT (who doesn't?), rename
it to WELCOME.TEXT (notice the extra E in the suffix). Then copy the supplied
WELCOME.TXT to your text directory. Also copy the WELCOME.RIP file there.
Also copy the WELCOME.REXX to your MEBBSNET:REXX/ directory.
I am by NO stretch of the imagination an ARTIST. My menus are serviceable
and are only to show an example of what CAN be done. Note that if you use
mouse regions, and do NOT use ICONS, your users don't have to have anything
except a RIP capable terminal program. If you DO decide to use icons, note
that your users will have to download them from you and install them in their
terminal programs. While the icons can add a bit of flair, I personally do
not think that they are worth the extra hassle required. If you change your
menus for any reason, you'd most likely have to issue a new set of icons.
Pain in the arse if you ask me ;)
Anyway, thats about it. I hope I've explained the basics of this to your
satisfaction. If you have any further questions, just ask.
